The ISCAR 5594957 is a solid carbide boring insert in the DCGT3AS geometry, designed for precision internal turning and boring operations on difficult-to-machine materials. Manufactured under the IC520 grade with a PVD-applied TiCN and TiN dual-layer coating, this insert delivers wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. The 55-degree diamond shape with a positive rake angle and AS chipbreaker geometry promotes controlled chip evacuation and reduces cutting forces. With a 3/8 inch inscribed circle and a 1/64 inch corner radius, it is suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes where tight tolerances are required. Licensed machinists, tool and die professionals, and CNC turning specialists are the primary installers.
This insert is intended for use in CNC turning centers, boring bars, and lathe toolholders configured for DCGT-style inserts. It is specifically engineered for hard materials, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, corresponding to ISO workpiece material codes M, N, and S. Typical applications include internal diameter finishing on close-tolerance bores in aerospace, medical, and industrial component machining where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are critical. It belongs to the ISCAR Isoturn series and conforms to ISO 13399 tooling data standards.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for DCGT-style boring bars and toolholders accepting a 3/8 inch inscribed circle, 5/32 inch thick solid carbide inserts with a 7-degree relief angle.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Always power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert clamp hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten or substitute fasteners. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper contact and runout control.
