The ISCAR 5591996 is a WNMG431PP turning insert in the Isoturn series, manufactured from solid carbide with a CVD-applied TiCN and Al2O3 multilayer coating. The insert carries the IC9250 manufacturer grade, which is engineered for reliable performance in continuous and interrupted cutting on stainless steel and steel workpieces. The 80-degree trigon (W) shape with a neutral clearance angle (N) and M tolerance delivers consistent dimensional accuracy in production turning environments. With an inscribed circle of 0.5 inches and a corner radius of 0.0160 inches (1/64 inch), this insert is suited for medium-depth finishing and semi-finishing passes. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in metalworking shops are the primary installers.
This insert is designed for external and internal turning applications, including boring operations on stainless steel and carbon steel parts. The PP chip breaker geometry promotes positive rake cutting action, which helps control chip flow and reduces cutting forces on tougher workpiece materials. The insert is compatible with clamp and pin holding methods, making it suitable for a wide range of standard WNMG-style toolholders used in both manual and CNC lathes in residential shop and industrial production settings. This insert should be installed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator familiar with indexable turning toolholder systems. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing the insert. Ensure the insert seat and clamping surfaces are clean and free of chips or debris before seating the new insert to maintain proper seating and dimensional accuracy. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque specifications for the clamping screw, and verify tool offset data in the CNC controller after each insert change.
