The ISCAR 5566954 is a DCMT-style indexable turning insert in the Isoturn series, engineered for single-end external turning operations. Built from solid carbide and coated via CVD with a TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN multilayer stack under the IC6015 grade designation, this insert is optimized for cutting stainless steel and other M-group workpiece materials. It features a 55-degree diamond shape, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 1/64-inch corner radius, and a PF chip breaker geometry that supports positive-rake cutting with controlled chip formation. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators working in production or job-shop environments are the primary installers.
The ISCAR 5566954 is designed for stainless steel turning applications where CVD-coated carbide grades deliver consistent tool life under moderate to high cutting speeds. The PF chip breaker geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation during finishing and light roughing passes. With a maximum depth of cut of 0.118 inches (3.00 mm) and a positive rake configuration, this insert reduces cutting forces on workpieces that are prone to work hardening. The screw-held mounting method suits standard DCMT-compatible toolholders used on CNC and manual lathes.
Designed as a screw-held replacement insert for DCMT-compatible turning toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, M-tolerance, C-clearance insert; primary fitment is stainless steel (ISO M-group) turning applications per the Isoturn series designation.
This insert is installed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians using the appropriate torx or hex wrench to seat the screw-clamp securely in a compatible DCMT toolholder. Power down and lock out the lathe spindle before changing inserts. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surface for debris or damage before seating the new insert. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut specified for this insert geometry.
