Product Description

The ISCAR 5566947 is a solid carbide turning insert in the VNMG 2.5-1-NF geometry, part of the Isoturn series. It carries a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, which builds wear resistance and thermal stability across a wide range of cutting conditions. The insert measures 12.40 mm (0.488 inches) in length with a 5/16-inch inscribed circle and a 1/64-inch corner radius. The 35-degree diamond shape (V shape code) and positive rake geometry make it well suited for turning operations where controlled chip flow and reduced cutting forces are priorities. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists are the primary installers and users of this insert.

This insert is designed primarily for turning stainless steel (ISO workpiece material code M), where TiCN and Al2O3 multilayer CVD coatings deliver the edge toughness and crater-wear resistance required. Typical applications include external and internal turning on CNC lathes in job shops, production machining environments, and precision component manufacturing. The NF chip breaker geometry is suited for finishing and near-finishing passes at moderate depths of cut up to 2.01 mm (0.079 inches). The double-end configuration allows indexing to a second cutting edge, extending tool life per insert.

Key Features

  • IC6015 grade solid carbide with CVD-applied TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN multilayer coating for wear and thermal resistance
  • VNMG 2.5-1-NF geometry with 35-degree diamond shape and positive rake for reduced cutting forces
  • NF chip breaker optimized for finishing passes on stainless steel and other ISO M group materials
  • Double-end design provides two indexable cutting edges per insert
  • Maximum depth of cut of 2.01 mm (0.079 inches) with a 1/64-inch corner radius for controlled surface finish
  • Conforms to ISO 13399 insert identification standards

Compatibility

Designed for use in VNMG-style insert toolholders that accept clamp and pin holding methods with a clearance code N and tolerance code M. Primary workpiece material compatibility is stainless steel (ISO M); no secondary workpiece material is specified for this grade and geometry combination.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by CNC machinists or toolroom technicians following standard insert indexing procedures. Power down the machine and lock out the spindle before handling inserts or toolholders. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and confirm the clamp and pin are secure before resuming operation. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut specification, as overloading the edge beyond its designed engagement range accelerates chipping and premature wear.
