The ISCAR 5566931 is a CCMT-style indexable turning insert designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a solid carbide substrate with a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN under the IC6025 manufacturer grade. This combination delivers wear resistance and thermal stability suited to demanding cutting conditions. The insert carries an 80-degree diamond shape, a positive rake geometry, and a 7-degree relief angle. At 9.70 mm in length with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, it fits standard CCMT toolholders and is installed by licensed machinists and tool-and-die professionals in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is rated for stainless steel as its primary workpiece material, making it appropriate for aerospace, food service, and medical component machining where stainless grades dominate. The SM chip breaker geometry supports boring and chamfering operations. Maximum depth of cut is 0.098 inches (2.49 mm). The screw-clamp holding method is standard for CCMT-seat toolholders. It is a single-end insert, so each edge is used once before indexing or replacement. The Isoturn series designation places it within ISCAR's general turning insert family, conforming to ISO 13399 standards for tool data representation.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for CCMT-seat turning toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle. ISO code CCMT 3-1-SM. Fits holders conforming to standard CCMT insert geometry with screw-clamp retention.
Indexable turning inserts are installed and serviced by qualified machinists. Shut down spindle power and engage the machine lock before changing any insert. Use the correct Torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer specification — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper flatness and clamping.
