The ISCAR 5566821 is a DNMG431F3P indexable turning insert in grade IC8250, designed for precision external and internal turning operations on metalworking lathes. It features a 55-degree diamond insert shape with a positive rake geometry and a neutral clearance angle (N), making it well suited for profiling and contouring cuts. The CVD-applied multilayer coating - TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN - delivers heat resistance and wear protection during continuous and interrupted cuts. At 15.5 mm in length with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle and a 1/64-inch corner radius, this insert is sized for moderate stock removal and fine finishing passes. It is installed by machinists and CNC lathe operators working in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is engineered for turning stainless steel and carbon and alloy steels, corresponding to ISO workpiece material codes M and P. The F3P chip breaker geometry promotes positive chip formation and helps manage chip evacuation at the cutting edge during steel and stainless steel turning. It is part of ISCAR's Isoturn series and is compatible with DNMG-style toolholders that use clamp and pin insert-holding methods. Typical applications include shaft turning, facing, and profiling passes on CNC and manual lathes in general machining and precision manufacturing settings.
Designed for use in DNMG-style indexable turning toolholders that accept clamp and pin insert retention. Primary workpiece material compatibility includes stainless steel (ISO code M) and carbon and alloy steel (ISO code P), as stated in the manufacturer specifications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine powered down and in a locked-out state before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and verify the clamp and pin are properly engaged before resuming operation. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for debris or damage that could affect seating accuracy. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's torque specification for the clamp screw, as over-tightening can chip the insert edge.
