The ISCAR 5566756 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal removal in demanding machining applications. This insert carries the ANSI code CCMT431 and ISO code CCMT120404, featuring an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake and positive side clearance. The IC806 grade is applied with a TiAlN PVD coating using ISCAR SumoTec technology, delivering high wear resistance balanced with moderate toughness. The insert is engineered for finishing and medium machining operations. With a 0.5 inch inscribed circle and a 1/64 inch corner radius, it is suited for controlled, precise cuts. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in aerospace and advanced manufacturing environments typically install and index this insert.
This insert targets superalloy and titanium workpiece materials, classified under primary workpiece material code S. It is built for applications where surface finish quality and tool life in high-temperature alloys are critical. Typical use cases include turning operations on aerospace components, turbine parts, and titanium structural parts. The SM chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and medium machining passes in these difficult-to-machine materials. Designed as a direct-fit replacement for CCMT431 style turning inserts used in screw-clamp toolholders accepting the CCMT insert shape with a 0.5 inch inscribed circle. Conforms to ISO 13399 standards.
Insert indexing and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to secure the clamping screw without overtightening, and inspect the insert seat and shim for debris or damage before seating a new insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer guidelines for screw torque and insert orientation.
