The ISCAR 5550508 is a solid carbide VNMM-style turning insert in the Isoturn series, designed for external and internal turning operations on stainless steel and steel workpieces. It carries a 35-degree diamond (V) insert shape with a positive rake geometry, making it well suited for profiling and finishing cuts where tight tolerances and surface finish matter. The IC8250 grade substrate is finished with a CVD-applied TiCN and Al2O3 dual-layer coating that resists heat buildup and wear in continuous and interrupted cuts. The PP chip breaker geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation at moderate feeds and depths. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists install this insert on compatible tool holders in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is intended for turning operations on stainless steel and carbon steel. It handles a maximum depth of cut of 2.50 mm (0.0984 inches) and is held in position by clamp and pin methods, making it compatible with tool holders that accept the VNMM insert style and N clearance code. The Isoturn series is a standard ISCAR platform used across a wide range of turning centers and manual lathes in both precision and general-purpose machining environments.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for tool holders accepting VNMM-style inserts with N clearance code, M tolerance code, and clamp or pin clamping. Primary workpiece material compatibility is stainless steel (ISO material code M) and steel (ISO material code P) per ISO 13399 classification.
Insert installation and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine in a full stop and all axes locked. Use the appropriate torque wrench for the clamping screw to avoid seat damage — refer to the tool holder manufacturer specification for torque values. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating the new insert. Never run an insert that shows chipping, edge breakdown, or coating delamination at the cutting edge.
