The ISCAR 5550504 is a solid carbide turning insert in the VNMG style, designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. Carrying the IC807 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, this insert delivers wear resistance and thermal stability across demanding cutting applications. The 35-degree diamond insert shape (Shape Code V) provides a sharp, low-force cutting geometry with a positive rake angle. The insert measures 12.4 mm (0.4882 inches) in length, with a 9/32-inch (0.2815-inch) inscribed circle and a 1/32-inch (0.0315-inch) corner radius. It is held using a clamp and pin method, consistent with standard ISO toolholder systems. This insert is used by machinists and tooling technicians in production and job-shop environments.
The ISCAR 5550504 is suited for turning operations on steel (P), stainless steel (M), and superalloys (S), as indicated by the primary workpiece material codes P, M, and S. The NF chip breaker geometry supports finishing and near-finishing passes. Maximum depth of cut is 3.00 mm (0.1181 inches). The Isoturn series insert fits standard VNMG-compatible toolholders and is appropriate for both light-duty finishing and moderate material removal rates on a wide range of ferrous and heat-resistant alloy workpieces.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for VNMG-style insert seats in Isoturn-series and compatible ISO-standard turning toolholders that accept a 9/32-inch inscribed circle insert with a clamp and pin holding method.
Installation and indexing of turning inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine fully powered down and the spindle locked. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to seat and secure the clamp per the toolholder manufacturer torque guidelines. Inspect the insert pocket for debris or wear before seating a new insert. Never exceed the maximum depth of cut specified for the insert grade and chip breaker combination in use.
