The ISCAR 5550500 is a VCMT-style carbide turning insert designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to ISO 13399 standards, this insert carries the IC807 submicron carbide grade with a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process. It features a 35-degree diamond (V) insert shape, a 3/8 inch inscribed circle, a 3/64 inch corner radius, and a positive rake geometry. The SM chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip evacuation across a broad range of materials. It is installed and replaced by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
The ISCAR 5550500 suits turning applications across multiple workpiece material groups, including steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), hardened materials (H), and superalloys (S), as classified by ISO material codes. The Isoturn series designation indicates compatibility with standard VCMT toolholder systems using screw-lock (top clamp) holding. It is suited to finishing and semi-finishing passes where consistent surface finish and dimensional control are required. The 3.00 mm maximum depth of cut makes it best applied in light-to-medium stock removal scenarios.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for VCMT333 toolholder seats in the ISCAR Isoturn series. Compatible with standard VCMT screw-lock toolholders accepting a 3/8 inch inscribed circle, 3/16 inch thick, 35-degree diamond insert with a C clearance angle and M tolerance class.
Installation is performed by machinists and CNC setup technicians. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct Torx or hex key to torque the clamping screw per the toolholder manufacturer specification — do not use the raw supplier spec from this listing as a substitute for your toolholder documentation. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and positional accuracy.
