The ISCAR 5550475 is a TNMG434GN-style triangular turning insert in grade IC8250, designed for use on CNC and manual lathes in metal cutting operations. The insert is manufactured from solid carbide and features a multilayer PVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, which delivers wear resistance and thermal stability across a range of cutting conditions. With a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, an insert length of 0.866 inches (22 mm), and a 0.0625 inch corner radius, this insert is suited to finishing and semi-finishing passes. The GN chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip formation. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments are the primary installers.
This insert is applied in turning operations on steel and stainless steel workpiece materials, classified under ISO material groups P and M. The Isoturn series designation indicates compatibility with ISCAR Isoturn toolholders that accept TNMG-style clamped and pin-locked inserts. Typical applications include external turning, facing, and profiling on ferrous metals in both roughing-to-finishing and semi-finishing depth-of-cut ranges up to 5.00 mm (0.197 inches). It is appropriate for use in shops running moderate to high cutting speeds where coating-assisted heat management is required.
Designed for use with ISCAR Isoturn series toolholders accepting TNMG-style inserts. Insert holding methods include clamp and pin. Primary workpiece material compatibility covers ISO material groups P (steel) and M (stainless steel).
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the turret locked before seating or removing inserts. Ensure the insert pocket and locating pin are clean and free of chips before seating the insert, and verify the clamping mechanism is torqued per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Do not exceed the rated maximum depth of cut or feed rate for the IC8250 grade and workpiece material combination.
