The ISCAR 5550474 is a TNMG433TF IC8250 grade solid carbide turning insert designed for general-purpose external and internal turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. The insert features a multilayer PVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN applied over a solid carbide substrate, providing wear resistance and thermal stability across a range of cutting conditions. The triangular insert shape with a 60-degree included angle and a 3/64-inch (0.0469-inch) corner radius suits finishing and semi-finishing passes. A TF chip breaker geometry promotes positive rake cutting action, reducing cutting forces. This insert is installed by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
The 5550474 is suited for turning operations on steel (ISO P) and stainless steel (ISO M) workpiece materials. It fits into the Isoturn series toolholding system, which accepts TNMG-style inserts with a 1/2-inch (0.5000-inch) inscribed circle. Typical applications include profiling, facing, and light interrupted cuts in ferrous materials. The maximum depth of cut is 4.50 mm (0.177 inches). The insert is compatible with clamp and pin holding methods, making it adaptable to standard TNMG toolholders used in most turning centers and engine lathes.
Designed for use in TNMG-style turning toolholders within the ISCAR Isoturn series. Accepts clamp and pin holding methods. Suitable for toolholders accommodating a 1/2-inch inscribed circle TNMG insert with a 0.203-inch hole diameter.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC operator. Power down and zero-energy-lock the machine before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and torque the clamp or pin fastener per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert, as contamination can cause premature edge failure or poor surface finish.
