The ISCAR 5550321 is a DNMG431NF IC8250 grade solid carbide turning insert designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert is manufactured to ISO 13399 standards and features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN for wear resistance and thermal stability. The 55-degree diamond insert shape (Code D) provides a sharp, accessible cutting geometry suited to finish and semi-finish turning passes. The IC8250 grade is engineered for consistent performance at elevated cutting speeds on difficult-to-machine materials. Machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments are the primary installers of this insert.
The DNMG431NF is built for turning stainless steel and carbon or alloy steel workpieces. The NF chip breaker geometry is suited to finishing operations where controlled chip formation and surface quality are critical. This insert fits within the Isoturn series tool holders and is also rated for boring applications, making it a versatile option in multi-operation setups. The DNMG geometry with a positive rake angle reduces cutting forces, which is an advantage when machining thin-walled or deflection-sensitive stainless components.
Designed for use in DNMG-seat tool holders within the ISCAR Isoturn series. Compatible with standard DNMG 431 insert pockets using clamp or pin holding methods. Primary workpiece material compatibility includes stainless steel (ISO material code M) and carbon or alloy steel (ISO material code P).
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to the tool holder manufacturer's specified procedure when securing the clamp or pin — do not overtighten by hand estimation alone. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating the insert to ensure proper contact and accurate tool-length compensation.
