The ISCAR 5550304 is a DCMT-style turning insert from the Isoturn series, designed for precision lathe and turning center operations. It features a 55-degree diamond insert shape with a positive rake geometry and a 7-degree relief angle, making it effective for finishing and semi-finishing passes. The insert carries a PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN dual coating under the IC807 manufacturer grade, which supports extended tool life across a broad range of workpiece materials. The 0.4 mm corner radius (0.0157 inches) provides a controlled surface finish while keeping cutting forces manageable. Qualified machinists and tool-and-die technicians are the primary installers of this insert.
This insert is suited for universal application across multiple material groups, including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, and high-temperature alloys, corresponding to ISO material codes H, K, M, P, and S. The PF chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip evacuation during light to moderate depth-of-cut operations, with a maximum depth of cut of 3.00 mm (0.1180 inches). It fits standard DCMT insert pockets on external turning toolholders and is appropriate for both CNC and manual lathe setups in production and job-shop environments.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for standard DCMT insert pocket toolholders accepting a 55-degree diamond insert with a 7-degree clearance angle (clearance code C, tolerance code M) and a 0.1730-inch hole diameter. Compatible across ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S as specified by the manufacturer.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist following the toolholder manufacturer torque and clamping guidelines. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating the new insert. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut specified for this insert style to avoid premature edge failure or insert fracture.
