The ISCAR 5550302 is a solid carbide turning insert in the Isoturn series, designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and manual turning machines. It carries the IC807 manufacturer grade and features a PVD-applied TiN and TiAlN dual-layer coating for wear resistance and thermal stability across a broad range of workpiece materials. The insert follows the DCMT 3-0-PF ISO designation, with a 55-degree diamond shape, a positive rake geometry, and a PF chip breaker configuration. Installed via screw-hold clamping, it suits production environments where consistent chip control and tool life matter. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary installers.
This insert is rated for universal primary workpiece material compatibility, covering ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S. Typical applications include finish and semi-finish turning, as well as boring operations. The positive rake and PF chip breaker geometry make it particularly effective in light-to-medium depth-of-cut passes where chip evacuation and surface finish are priorities. It is well suited for both ferrous and non-ferrous turning in job shop and production settings.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard indexable insert for DCMT-style turning toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle insert with screw-hold clamping. Verify toolholder pocket geometry, clearance code C, and tolerance code M before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench for the clamping screw to avoid insert or pocket damage — refer to the toolholder manufacturer's torque specification for the specific screw size. Inspect the toolholder pocket for wear or debris before seating the insert.
