The ISCAR 5550287 is a solid carbide turning insert in the Isoturn series, designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the IC807 manufacturer grade with a dual PVD coating of TiN and TiAlN, which provides wear resistance and thermal stability across a wide range of cutting conditions. The insert follows the CPMT style with an 80-degree diamond shape and a positive rake geometry, reducing cutting forces on the workpiece. Corner radius is 0.016 inches (1/64 inch), and the insert length is 9.5 mm (0.374 inches). Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert as a direct indexed replacement in compatible screw-held toolholders.
This insert is suited for universal workpiece material categories including ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S, making it applicable across steels, stainless steels, cast irons, hardened materials, and heat-resistant superalloys. The PF chip breaker geometry supports finishing and semi-finishing passes. The Isoturn series designation indicates suitability for both turning and boring applications. Maximum depth of cut is 3.0 mm (0.118 inches). Sold individually with a minimum order quantity of 10 units per order.
Designed for use in screw-held CPMT-style toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle insert. Conforms to ISO 13399 standards. ISO code CPMT 3-1-PF. Compatible with toolholders matched to an 80-degree diamond insert with a 0.173-inch hole diameter and a 5/32-inch insert thickness.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key for the clamping screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not over-torque the screw, as this can fracture the insert or damage the toolholder seat. Verify insert seating and clamp integrity before resuming cuts.
