The ISCAR 5550219 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CCMT style, designed for precision turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. Manufactured under the Isoturn series, this insert features a multilayer PVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN applied over a solid carbide substrate, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability during interrupted and continuous cuts. The 80-degree diamond insert shape (shape code C) provides a sharp, rigid cutting geometry with a positive rake angle and a 7-degree relief angle (clearance code C). The WG chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip flow and reduced cutting forces. Insert length measures 9.70 mm (0.382 inches) with an inscribed circle of 3/8 inches (0.375 inches) and a corner radius of 1/64 inches (0.0157 inches). Installed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for turning stainless steel and steel workpieces in both roughing and finishing passes where controlled chip formation is critical. The IC8250 grade and multilayer coating make it effective in moderate to high cutting speed applications on stainless steel (ISO material group M) and carbon or alloy steel (ISO material group P). The screw-holding method and tolerance code M ensure repeatable seating in compatible CCMT insert pockets. Maximum depth of cut is 2.00 mm (0.0787 inches). Typical applications include shaft turning, facing, and profiling on production lathes in metalworking and manufacturing facilities.
Designed for use in CCMT-style insert pockets within the ISCAR Isoturn series toolholders. Compatible with turning operations on stainless steel (ISO group M) and steel (ISO group P) workpieces. Refer to ISCAR toolholder documentation for specific pocket and screw specifications before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamping screw to seat the insert without over-tightening. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating to ensure full contact and accurate tool offset.
