The ISCAR 5550217 is a CCMT-style solid carbide turning insert designed for precision lathe and turning center operations. Coated with TiCN and Al2O3 via a CVD process under the IC8250 manufacturer grade, this insert delivers wear resistance and thermal stability across a range of cutting conditions. It features an 80-degree diamond shape with a positive rake geometry and a 7-degree relief angle. The inscribed circle measures 3/8 inch (0.3752 inches), insert length is 9.70 mm (0.3819 inches), and the corner radius is 1/64 inch (0.0157 inches). It is part of the Isoturn series and intended for use by CNC machinists and toolroom professionals.
This insert is suited for turning applications on P-category materials (steels) as the primary workpiece material, with M-category materials (stainless steels) as secondary. Typical install scenarios include external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers where screw-clamped toolholders accept CCMT geometry inserts. The Isoturn series geometry is commonly applied in medium to finish-cut passes where consistent edge life and dimensional accuracy are required. Maximum depth of cut is 3.00 mm (0.1181 inches).
Designed for use in screw-clamping toolholders that accept CCMT-geometry inserts with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle. Compatible toolholders must accommodate a 4.40 mm (0.1732-inch) hole diameter for the clamping screw. Verify toolholder specifications against ISO code CCMT32.51 prior to installation.
Insert replacement and indexing should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician with the machine powered down and the spindle fully stopped. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturer's specified clamping torque when seating the screw-clamped insert. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before installing a fresh insert edge. Handle carbide inserts with care to avoid chipping the cutting edges prior to use.
