The ISCAR 5550212 is a CCMT-style indexable turning insert in the Isoturn series, designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It is manufactured from submicron solid carbide with a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability across a wide range of cutting conditions. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape with a positive rake geometry, a 1/4-inch inscribed circle, a 1/64-inch corner radius, and a WG chip breaker for controlled chip evacuation. Machinists and tooling specialists install this insert into compatible CCMT toolholders as a direct indexable replacement.
This insert is suited for turning applications across multiple workpiece material categories, including steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), hardened materials (H), and superalloys (S) per ISO primary workpiece material coding. The WG chip breaker geometry supports finishing to semi-finishing cuts, with a maximum depth of cut of 2.00 mm (0.0787 inches). The Isoturn series is commonly used in production turning environments where consistent tool life and repeatable surface finish are required. Each package contains one insert, with a minimum order quantity of 10 inserts.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for CCMT-style toolholders accepting a 1/4-inch inscribed circle, 3/32-inch thick diamond insert with a screw clamp holding method. Refer to your toolholder manufacturer specifications to confirm fitment before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut for this insert grade, and verify chip breaker suitability against the workpiece material before beginning a cutting operation.
