The ISCAR 5540031 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DCGT style, designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Part of the Isoturn series, it features a 55-degree diamond shape with a positive rake geometry and a clearance code C configuration. The grade is IC20, an uncoated solid carbide formulation suited to finishing passes where sharp cutting edges and tight tolerances are required. The inscribed circle measures 0.25 inches, the insert length is 0.305 inches (7.75 mm), and the corner radius is 0.0039 inches. An AS chipbreaker geometry promotes controlled chip formation during light finishing cuts.
This insert is intended for finishing and light turning applications across a wide range of workpiece materials, including ferrous metals, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, heat-resistant alloys, and non-metallic materials, as indicated by the universal primary workpiece material classification (H, K, M, N, S ISO codes). It is well suited for high-precision turning where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are the primary goals. The screw-in insert holding method provides secure seating in compatible DCGT toolholders used in production turning environments by machinists and CNC lathe operators.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement turning insert for DCGT-style toolholders compatible with a 1/4 inch inscribed circle insert seat. Verify toolholder seat geometry, clearance angle, and clamping configuration before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC technician with the machine in a locked-out, zero-energy state before any insert change. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to secure the clamping screw to the toolholder specification; do not over-torque the screw. Inspect the insert pocket and seat for chips or debris before seating the insert to ensure proper contact. Confirm tool offset and depth-of-cut settings on the CNC controller before resuming cutting operations.
