The ISCAR 5540006 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DCGT 3-2-AS geometry, part of the Isoturn series. It features a 55-degree diamond shape (Insert Shape Code D) with a positive rake angle and a 7-degree relief angle, making it well suited for light finishing and semi-finishing operations. The inscribed circle measures 3/8 inch (0.3748 inches), insert length is 11.60 mm (0.4567 inches), and the corner radius is 1/32 inch (0.0315 inches). The IC20 uncoated solid carbide grade provides sharp cutting edges for non-ferrous and light-duty universal material applications. Installation is by screw-hold method. The 5540006 is designed for use in turning centers and CNC lathes performing finishing passes on a broad range of workpiece materials. The IC20 grade carries primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S, indicating suitability across cast iron, non-ferrous, stainless, non-metals, steel, and high-temperature alloys. The AS chip breaker geometry promotes reliable chip control during light-depth finishing cuts with a maximum depth of cut of 3.00 mm (0.1181 inches). It is appropriate for both manual turret lathes and automated CNC turning applications where tight tolerances are required.
Designed for use in DCGT-style toolholders compatible with the Isoturn series. Specific toolholder compatibility should be verified against the ISCAR Isoturn series toolholder specifications using Insert Size Code 3-2 and screw-clamp mounting. This insert is installed and indexed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the turret or tool post secured before changing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key for the clamping screw as specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten the screw, as solid carbide inserts are brittle and can crack under excessive clamping force. Verify seating and runout with a dial indicator before resuming cutting operations.
