The ISCAR 5510346 is a square indexable drill insert designed for use with DR-TWIST series indexable drills. It is manufactured from submicron solid carbide with a PVD-applied IC808 grade coating, which provides wear resistance and heat control across a broad range of workpiece materials. The insert features a 0.5000-inch (12.70 mm) inscribed circle, a 0.1874-inch thickness, and a 0.80 mm corner radius. The SOGT style with DT chipbreaker geometry is engineered to manage chip formation during through-hole and interrupted drilling operations. Installation is typically performed by a machinist or toolroom technician maintaining a DR-TWIST drill body.
This insert is suited for use in CNC machining centers and drill presses where the DR-TWIST indexable drill platform is employed. The IC808 grade with PVD coating supports universal workpiece material compatibility, covering ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S. This broad material range makes the insert applicable across cast iron, steel, stainless, hardened materials, and heat-resistant superalloys in both production and job-shop environments. The square SOGT form seats into the designated pocket of compatible DR-TWIST drill bodies without modification.
Designed for use with ISCAR DR-TWIST series indexable drill bodies that accept SOGT-style square inserts with insert size code 12 (size designation 120408). Confirm pocket style and clamping configuration against the specific drill body specification before ordering.
Insert indexing and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and all energy is locked out before accessing the drill body pocket. Use the correct torx or hex key as specified by the drill body manufacturer to achieve proper clamping torque — do not over-torque or substitute fasteners. Inspect the insert pocket seating surface for debris or wear before seating a new insert.
