The ISCAR 5510199 is a VNMG-style solid carbide turning insert designed for precision external and internal turning operations. Carrying the IC6025 manufacturer grade, this insert features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN that provides wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous and interrupted cuts. The 35-degree diamond shape with a positive rake geometry reduces cutting forces and heat buildup at the workpiece interface. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 1/32-inch corner radius, this insert suits medium-stock turning passes where controlled chip formation is critical. It is sized at 16.6 mm (0.6535 inches) in length and 3/16 inch in thickness, fitting standard VNMG toolholders using clamp or pin holding methods.
This insert is engineered primarily for turning stainless steel (ISO material code M), where edge stability and coating adhesion under high heat are essential. The Isoturn series and M3M chip breaker geometry manage chip curl and evacuation effectively in these demanding materials. Typical applications include CNC lathe operations on austenitic and martensitic stainless grades in both production shop and job-shop environments. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary users. The clearance code N and tolerance code M confirm VNMG form-factor compliance per ISO 13399 standards.
Designed for use in standard VNMG-style toolholders using clamp or pin insert holding methods. Intended primarily for turning stainless steel workpiece materials per ISO material code M. Isoturn series designation applies.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed with the machine fully powered down and the spindle locked. Verify the toolholder pocket and seating surface are clean and free of chips before loading. Use the appropriate torque wrench for the clamping screw as specified by the toolholder manufacturer. Confirm insert orientation and clearance angle alignment before resuming cutting operations.
