The ISCAR 5510108 is a solid carbide turning insert with CNMX geometry, manufactured under the Heliturn series and graded IC806. It features a physical vapor deposition (PVD) TiAlN coating applied over a submicron carbide substrate, delivering the hardness and thermal resistance needed for aggressive interrupted and continuous cuts. The 80-degree diamond shape (C code) with a positive rake geometry and M4MW chip breaker promotes controlled chip evacuation in demanding applications. With a 0.5 inch inscribed circle and a 0.0313 inch (1/32 inch) corner radius, this insert is sized for medium material removal in precision turning operations. Licensed machinists and CNC operators handling high-temperature alloys and titanium will find this grade well-suited for the application.
This insert is designed for turning operations on superalloys and titanium (ISO workpiece material code S), with secondary suitability for stainless and other M-group materials. The Heliturn series targets high-performance turning applications where tool life and edge stability under thermal stress are critical. Typical installation scenarios include external turning on CNC lathes using compatible CNMX-style toolholders. The maximum depth of cut is 6.00 mm (0.2362 inch), making it appropriate for medium-depth finishing and semi-finishing passes.

Insert replacement and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured before changing inserts. Inspect the insert seat and clamping components for debris or wear before seating the new insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque specifications for the clamping screw — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide insert body.
