The ISCAR 5510098 is a WNMG431TF IC806 grade solid carbide turning insert designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Coated with TiAlN via a PVD process, this insert carries the IC806 grade designation, optimized for high wear resistance to moderate wear resistance and toughness when machining special and super alloys (ISO material group S) as well as steel (ISO material group M). The insert measures 8.70 mm (0.3425 inches) in length with a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle, a 3/16-inch thickness, and a 1/64-inch (0.0156-inch) corner radius. It belongs to ISCAR's Isoturn series and is rated for roughing and medium machining chip-breaking operations.
This insert is suited for turning applications on high-temperature alloys, titanium alloys, stainless steels, and general steels. Its TF chip breaker geometry supports roughing and medium machining passes where chip control and edge stability are critical. The 80-degree trigon (W) insert shape and negative side clearance provide a robust cutting edge suitable for interrupted cuts and demanding workpiece materials common in aerospace, energy, and heavy equipment machining environments. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working with super alloys will find this insert appropriate for moderate to aggressive depth-of-cut scenarios up to 4.00 mm.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit insert for toolholders accepting WNMG431 geometry inserts with clamp or pin holding methods and negative rake seating. Compatible with Isoturn series toolholders.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten the clamping screw, as this can crack the carbide substrate. Confirm insert orientation and seating against the pocket before resuming cutting operations.
