The ISCAR 5509978 is a carbide replaceable tip drill in the FCP series, designed for high-productivity hole-making in metalworking applications. The drill accepts a solid carbide insert tip with a 0.846-inch cutting diameter and features a 140-degree included drill point angle with a thinned web for reduced thrust force at entry. The IC908 submicron carbide grade with PVD-applied TiAlN coating delivers heat resistance and wear life suited for steel and cast iron. Licensed HVAC, plumbing, and machine-tool technicians working in metal fabrication or mechanical contracting will recognize this as an OEM-compatible precision consumable for CNC drilling operations.
The FCP 5509978 is intended for drilling operations on steel and cast iron as primary workpiece materials, with secondary capability in stainless steel, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials. The flat-bottom point style and slow spiral flute geometry make this tip appropriate for shallow-cavity and flat-bottom bore applications. The insert geometry is classified P with an insert seat size of 21, following ISO 13399 standards. The functional length is 0.311 inches and the overall projection length is 0.339 inches. This tip is installed into a compatible FCP series drill body and secured by twist-style insert holding.
Designed as a replaceable tip for ISCAR FCP series drill bodies with insert seat size 21 and ISO number FCP 215. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, cast iron, stainless steel, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials as defined by ISO material codes P, K, M, S, and H.
This replaceable tip is installed by a machinist or tooling technician into an FCP series drill body using the twist-style locking method. Ensure the drill body and tip seat are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Consult the machine tool and toolholder manufacturer guidelines for appropriate spindle speeds and feed rates before running. Do not exceed the rated cutting conditions for the IC908 grade when machining hard or abrasive materials.
