The ISCAR 5509973 is a carbide replaceable tip drill from the FCP series, designed for precision hole-making in ferrous and hard materials. It carries the IC908 grade with a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, delivering strong wear resistance at elevated cutting temperatures. The drill tip is solid carbide, ground to a 140-degree included angle with a thinned point and slow spiral flute geometry. At 0.748 inches cutting diameter and 0.256 inches functional length, this tool is built for short, controlled drilling passes where accuracy and edge stability matter. It is installed by machinists and tool-room professionals in CNC and manual drilling applications.
This replaceable tip drill is suited for primary use on steel and cast iron workpiece materials, with secondary capability on stainless steel, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials. The FCP series flat-bottom style makes it appropriate for applications where a clean, controlled entry and exit profile is required. The two-flute spiral design handles chip evacuation in short-hole drilling scenarios across a range of ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials. It is commonly used in production machining environments where repeatable hole quality and tool consistency are required across high-volume runs.
Designed for use with compatible FCP series drill bodies accepting insert seat size 19. Tip replacement is specific to the FCP series platform. Confirm body seat size and series designation before ordering.
Installation and tip replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine fully stopped and energy locked out per applicable machine safety procedures. Use the correct torx or hex key as specified by the drill body manufacturer to seat and secure the replaceable tip. Do not exceed the recommended cutting parameters for the IC908 grade and TiAlN coating, and consult the tool body manufacturer documentation for speed, feed, and depth-of-cut guidance. Inspect the seat and tip interface for chips or debris before securing the tip to ensure proper seating and runout performance.
