The ISCAR 5509968 is a carbide replaceable tip drill in the FCP series, designed for precision drilling operations in metalworking applications. The drill tip is manufactured from solid carbide with IC908 submicron grade and features a PVD-applied TiAlN coating for extended tool life and heat resistance at elevated cutting speeds. The cutting diameter measures 0.65 inches, with a functional length of 0.220 inches and an overall height of 0.248 inches. The 140-degree included drill point angle is web-thinned for improved chip evacuation and reduced thrust. A two-flute slow spiral geometry and flat bottom style make this drill well suited for controlled depth and face drilling operations. Licensed machinists, tooling specialists, and CNC operators install this style of replaceable tip insert.
The ISCAR 5509968 is intended for drilling operations in steel and cast iron as its primary workpiece materials, classified under ISO material codes P and K. Secondary workpiece material compatibility includes stainless steel, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials, designated under ISO codes M, S, and H. It is used in production machining environments where consistent hole quality and repeatable tip replacement are required, particularly on CNC machining centers and drill presses running through-spindle or external coolant setups. The FCP series replaceable tip design allows for tip exchange without removing the drill body from the toolholder, reducing downtime on the machine.
Designed as an OEM-style replaceable tip for use in ISCAR FCP series drill bodies accepting insert seat size 16, ISO number FCP 165. Compatible with primary workpiece materials Steel and Cast Iron (ISO codes P, K) and secondary materials Stainless Steel, Super-alloys, Titanium, and Hard Materials (ISO codes M, S, H).
Installation of replaceable tip drills should be performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the CNC program is in a safe state before tip removal or installation. The tip is secured by a twist-lock holding method; follow the tool manufacturer torque guidance for the specific drill body used with this tip. Inspect the insert seat for damage or debris before seating the new tip, as contamination can affect runout and hole quality.
