The ISCAR 5509899 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DCMT style, designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries an IC806 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, which provides thermal resistance and wear performance suited for demanding cutting conditions. The insert features a 55-degree diamond shape, a 3/8 inch (0.3750 inch) inscribed circle, and a 1/64 inch (0.0157 inch) corner radius. With a positive rake geometry and SM chip breaker, it is engineered to control chip flow and reduce cutting forces across a range of workpiece materials. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists are the primary installers of this insert.
This insert belongs to the Isoturn series and is configured for use in turning applications involving ISO material group S (heat-resistant superalloys and titanium) as the primary workpiece material, with ISO group M (stainless steel) as the secondary material. It mounts via screw-holding in compatible DCMT-style toolholders with a clearance code of C and tolerance code of M. The maximum depth of cut is 2.50 mm (0.0984 inch). It is appropriate for both roughing and semi-finishing passes on difficult-to-machine alloys in aerospace, energy, and general precision machining environments.
Designed for use in DCMT-style screw-clamp turning toolholders accepting a 3/8 inch inscribed circle insert with a clearance code C and tolerance code M. Compatible toolholders must accommodate the 4.40 mm screw hole diameter. Intended for ISO material group S (superalloys, titanium) and group M (stainless steel) workpieces as specified in the product data.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine in a fully stopped and locked-out state. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specification — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the insert. Verify insert seating and pocket cleanliness before securing; chips or debris in the pocket will affect insert geometry and surface finish. Handle carbide inserts with care to avoid chipping the cutting edge prior to use.
