The ISCAR 5509880 is a carbide replaceable tip drill insert from the ICM series, designed for high-performance hole-making in demanding materials. Built to IC908 grade from submicron solid carbide, it carries a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process for extended wear resistance and heat management. The cutting diameter is 0.72 inches, the included drill point angle is 140 degrees, and the functional length is 0.304 inches. A thinned web geometry reduces thrust at entry, while the slow spiral flute design promotes chip evacuation in tough alloys. This insert is installed and serviced by machinists and toolroom technicians in production drilling applications.
The ICM 5509880 tip is suited for drilling stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium as primary workpiece materials. It also performs in steel, cast iron, and hard materials in secondary applications. The T-Land style cutting edge and M insert geometry make it particularly effective in interrupted cuts and work-hardening materials common in aerospace, energy, and precision manufacturing environments. Typical use is in CNC machining centers and drill presses where the ICM-series body accepts replaceable tip inserts for rapid changeover without removing the tool body from the spindle.
Designed for use with ISCAR ICM-series replaceable tip drill bodies accepting insert seat size 18, per ISO 13399 standard tooling interface. ISO number reference: ICM 183.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist following the machine tool manufacturer lockout procedure before any spindle access. Use the appropriate ISCAR torx or hex key as specified by the drill body documentation to seat and secure the tip. Do not exceed the recommended spindle speeds and feeds for the workpiece material and tool diameter. Inspect the seating pocket for chips or damage before installing a replacement tip to ensure proper tip engagement and runout control.
