The ISCAR 5509628 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill insert designed for precision hole-making in demanding machining environments. This tip carries the IC908 submicron carbide grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, delivering strong wear resistance and thermal stability in interrupted and continuous cuts. The drill point angle is 140 degrees with a double-margin, web-thinned geometry and a slow spiral flute configuration, keeping radial forces controlled and hole straightness consistent. At 0.720 inches cutting diameter and 0.282 inches functional length, the insert is matched to the ICP-2M series body. Licensed machinists and CNC setup technicians are the primary installers of this tip type.
The 5509628 is suited for production drilling in steel as its primary workpiece material, designated ISO material code P. Secondary workpiece capability covers stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials, corresponding to ISO material codes M, K, S, and H. The double-margin point style improves hole cylindricity and surface finish, making this insert applicable in aerospace, die and mold, and general metalworking operations where dimensional accuracy is critical. It is used in machining centers and CNC lathes equipped with compatible ICP-2M series drill bodies.
Designed as a replaceable tip insert for ISCAR ICP-2M series drill bodies with an insert seat size of 18, ISO number ICP 183-2M. Compatible with drilling applications in ISO P, M, K, S, and H workpiece material groups.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. The drill body must be fully de-energized and the spindle locked before seating or removing the insert tip. Use the appropriate ISCAR torx or clamping key specified for the ICP-2M body — do not substitute fastener tools, as improper seating affects runout and can fracture the carbide tip. Verify tip seating and torque per the drill body manufacturer documentation before resuming cutting operations.
