The ISCAR 5509620 is a carbide replaceable tip drill designed for precision hole-making in demanding metalworking applications. Part of the ICP-2M series, it features a solid carbide tip in ISCAR grade IC908, a submicron carbide grade applied with a PVD-deposited TiAlN coating for extended tool life in abrasive and hard materials. The cutting diameter is 0.677 inches, the drill point is ground to a 140-degree included angle, and the double-margin geometry supports accurate hole positioning and smooth entry. The slow spiral flute design and web-thinned point reduce thrust and improve chip evacuation. This tool is installed by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
The 5509620 is suited for drilling steel as its primary workpiece material, with secondary capability in stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials. The ICP-2M series uses a twist-locking insert holding method for repeatable tip indexing without removing the drill body from the spindle. Typical applications include through-hole and blind-hole drilling on machining centers and drill presses where consistent diameter and finish are required. This replaceable tip format reduces tooling cost compared to solid carbide drills by allowing tip replacement without replacing the shank body.
Designed for use with ICP-2M series replaceable tip drill bodies accepting insert seat size 17. ISO number reference is ICP 172-2M. Verify body seat size and series designation before ordering.
Installation is performed by machinists or tool crib personnel following machine shop safety procedures. Power down or stop the spindle completely before seating or removing the replaceable tip. Use the manufacturer-specified torque key or wrench for the twist-lock mechanism to ensure proper tip retention. Confirm cutting diameter and projection dimensions against job setup requirements before running the first part.
