The ISCAR 5509612 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill insert designed for precision hole-making in demanding metalworking applications. Manufactured in the ICP-2M series, this tip features a 140-degree included angle, a double-margin point type, and a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process. The submicron carbide grade IC908 provides wear resistance and edge retention when drilling steel and other challenging workpiece materials. The slow spiral, two-flute geometry supports chip evacuation and stable cutting action. At 0.626 inches in cutting diameter and 0.344 inches in functional height, this tip is sized for precision replacement use in compatible ICP-2M drill bodies. It is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians using a twist-style insert holding method.
This replaceable tip drill insert is suited for production and job-shop drilling operations where steel is the primary workpiece material. Secondary material compatibility includes stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials, making the IC908 grade versatile across a range of ISO material groups P, M, K, S, and H. Typical applications include drilling on CNC machining centers and lathes where consistent hole quality and insert-to-body repeatability are required. The ICP-2M series is engineered for close-tolerance replaceable tip systems, reducing the need to replace the full drill body on wear.
Designed as a replaceable tip insert for ICP-2M series drill bodies, insert seat size 15, with ISO number ICP 159-2M. Compatible workpiece materials include steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), super-alloys and titanium (S), and hard materials (H) per ISO material classification.
This insert is installed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician into a compatible ICP-2M drill body using the twist-style locking method. Before changing inserts, ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and all power is isolated per shop lockout/tagout procedures. Verify the insert seat is clean and free of chips or debris before seating the new tip. Do not force the insert during installation, as improper seating can cause runout or premature tip failure.
