The ISCAR 5509581 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill insert designed for high-performance hole-making in demanding machining environments. Carrying the IC908 submicron grade and a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, this tip delivers strong wear resistance and thermal stability under aggressive feed conditions. It features a 140-degree included angle with a double-margin, web-thinned point geometry for accurate entry and reduced thrust. The slow spiral flute design and double-margin configuration promote chip evacuation and bore straightness. This tip is part of the ICP-2M series and is held in place by a twist-style insert seat, making swaps quick without removing the drill body from the spindle.
This insert is intended for drilling operations in steel as its primary workpiece material. It is also rated for stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys and titanium, and hard materials, covering ISO material groups P, M, K, S, and H. Typical applications include CNC machining centers and drill-press setups in production environments where insert changeability reduces downtime. It conforms to ISO 13399 standards, supporting integration with tool management systems. Machinists and tooling specialists working in job shops, aerospace, and heavy manufacturing are the primary users of this product.
Designed for use with ICP-2M series replaceable tip drill bodies using insert seat size 11. ISO number for this tip is ICP 119-2M. Confirm body series and seat size before ordering to ensure proper fit.
Replaceable tip drill inserts should be seated and torqued using the manufacturer-recommended insert key for the ICP-2M body; do not use substitute tools that may damage the seating surfaces. Ensure the drill body is fully secured in the spindle and the machine is at a complete stop before changing tips. Inspect the insert pocket and locating surfaces for chips or debris before installing a new tip. Follow shop safety procedures and machine lockout protocols during any tooling change.
