The ISCAR 5509459 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill insert from the ICP series, designed for precision hole-making in demanding metal-cutting applications. The insert carries the IC908 submicron carbide grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, providing heat and wear resistance during high-speed drilling operations. The cutting diameter is 0.287 inches, and the included drill point angle is 140 degrees with a thinned web and honed cutting edge for reduced entry force and accurate centering. Two spiral flutes with a slow-spiral geometry clear chips efficiently from the cutting zone. Machinists and toolroom technicians working with CNC machining centers install this insert directly into compatible ICP-series drill bodies.
This replaceable tip insert is intended for drilling operations in a range of workpiece materials. The primary rated material is steel (ISO code P). Secondary rated materials include stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), super-alloys and titanium (S), and hard materials (H). The slow-spiral, two-flute geometry suits these tougher materials where chip control and edge integrity are critical. Typical application environments include production machining on vertical or horizontal machining centers in industrial and manufacturing settings. The insert seats in an ICP series drill body at seat size 7.
Designed for use with ICP-series replaceable tip drill bodies at insert seat size 7. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials as defined by ISO material codes P, M, K, S, and H.
This insert is installed and removed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians using the appropriate torx or clamping key for the ICP drill body. Ensure the drill body spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out before changing inserts. Verify the insert seat is clean and free of chips or debris before seating the new tip, as contamination at the seating surface will affect runout and hole quality. Follow the drill body manufacturer's clamping procedure and confirm the insert is fully seated before resuming cutting operations.
