The ISCAR 5509458 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill insert in the ICP series, designed for use with compatible modular drill bodies in precision drilling operations. Built to IC908 submicron grade carbide and finished with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, this insert delivers wear resistance and thermal stability in demanding cutting environments. The tip features a 140-degree included angle, a slow spiral flute configuration, a honed cutting edge style, and a web-thinned point geometry that reduces thrust and improves chip flow. It measures 0.283 inches in cutting diameter and 0.181 inches in height. Installation is performed by machinists and CNC operators in metalworking shops, tool-and-die operations, and production machining environments.
This insert is suited for drilling operations in steel as its primary workpiece material. Secondary compatible workpiece materials include stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials. The ICP series modular tip system is common in production drilling applications where rapid tip exchange and consistent tool geometry are priorities. The insert carries an ISO number of ICP 072 and conforms to ISO 13399 standards for cutting tool data representation. It is sold individually, with a minimum order quantity of 2 units.
Designed as a replaceable tip insert for ICP series modular drill bodies, insert seat size 7. Primary workpiece compatibility is steel (ISO material code P); secondary compatibility includes stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), super-alloys and titanium (S), and hard materials (H) per ISO material classification.
This insert is installed and replaced by machinists or CNC tooling technicians. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the tool holder secured before removing or seating the insert. Use the appropriate torx or insert-key driver specified for the ICP series seat to seat the tip without over-torquing the retention mechanism. Verify runout and seating before resuming cutting operations.
