The ISCAR 5509173 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill from the ICP series, designed for high-productivity hole-making in metalworking applications. The tip carries an IC908 submicron carbide grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, which improves wear resistance and edge life when cutting ferrous and difficult materials. The cutting diameter is 0.969 inches, and the drill point geometry includes a 140-degree included angle with a thinned web for reduced thrust force at entry. The honed cutting edge and slow spiral flute configuration support controlled chip evacuation and consistent hole quality in production environments. Licensed HVAC technicians and machinists working in precision drilling will recognize this as a production-grade insert-tip design.
The ICP0969 tip is suited for drilling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials, covering ISO workpiece material categories P, M, K, S, and H. This makes it a versatile choice for job shops and production cells handling mixed material schedules. The replaceable tip design allows the carbide tip to be swapped without removing the drill body from the spindle, reducing changeover time. Typical applications include through-hole and blind-hole drilling on CNC machining centers and drill presses where consistent diameter and geometry are required.
Designed for use with ISCAR ICP series drill bodies accepting seat size 24 inserts, ISO number ICP 246. Compatible workpiece materials include steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), super-alloys and titanium (S), and hard materials (H) per ISO classification.
Installation of replaceable tip drills should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the spindle locked and machine power isolated. The tip must be seated fully and secured per the tool body manufacturer torque procedure before operation. Inspect the insert pocket and locating surfaces for chips or debris before seating a new tip, as contamination will cause runout and premature tip failure. Always verify cutting parameters against the IC908 grade data for the specific workpiece material before first use.
