The ISCAR 5509148 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill insert from the ICP series, designed for precision hole-making operations in metalworking applications. This tip carries an IC908 submicron carbide grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, delivering heat resistance and edge retention at elevated cutting speeds. The included point angle is 140 degrees with a thinned, web-thinned geometry and a honed cutting edge to reduce entry force. Cutting diameter is 0.909 inches, and the functional length is 0.388 inches. The slow-spiral, two-flute design promotes chip evacuation in deeper cuts. This insert is installed and replaced by machinists and tool room technicians in production and job-shop drilling operations.
The ICP0909 tip is engineered primarily for drilling steel and is also rated for stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials, corresponding to ISO workpiece material codes P, M, K, S, and H. Its Insert P geometry and size-23 seat make it a direct fit for compatible ICP-series drill bodies. Typical applications include component drilling on CNC machining centers and drill presses where consistent hole tolerance and long tool life are priorities. The ISO 13399 standard compliance ensures the part data is compatible with tool management and CAM software systems used in modern shops.

Replaceable tip drill inserts are installed by machinists using the twist-lock holding method specific to the ICP-series body. The tool body must be fully de-energized and the spindle locked or the machine powered down before tip replacement. Use the correct torque wrench or insert key as specified by the drill body manufacturer — do not overtighten, as this can crack the carbide tip or damage the seat. Inspect the insert pocket and seat surfaces for wear or contamination before seating a new tip.
