The ISCAR 5509117 is a carbide replaceable tip drill in the ICM series, designed for precision hole-making in demanding workpiece materials. The cutting tip is manufactured from solid carbide with an IC908 submicron-grade substrate and a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process. The 140-degree included angle with a thinned point and T-Land style geometry reduces cutting forces and improves centering at entry. At 0.843 inches cutting diameter with a functional length of 0.390 inches, this drill tip is suited for high-productivity drilling operations where insert replaceability reduces downtime compared to solid-shank alternatives. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this style of replaceable tip in compatible ICM series drill bodies.
This replaceable drill tip is engineered for primary use in stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpiece materials, corresponding to ISO material codes M and S. Secondary applications include steel, cast iron, and hard materials (ISO codes P, K, and H). The slow spiral flute type and web-thinned point geometry are well suited to materials that generate high cutting heat or resist chip evacuation, making this tip a practical choice for aerospace, medical, and heavy industrial machining environments where material toughness is a consistent challenge.
Designed for use with compatible ISCAR ICM series drill bodies accepting insert seat size 21 and ISO number ICM 214. Verify body seat size and series designation before ordering to ensure proper seating and clamping torque.
Replaceable tip drills in this series are installed and removed by a licensed machinist or CNC operator following the drill body manufacturer's seating and torque procedure. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out before handling the tip. Inspect the drill body seat for chips, damage, or wear before installing a new tip, as a contaminated or worn seat will affect runout and tip retention. Do not force the tip into the seat or use impact tools during installation.
