The ISCAR 5508824 is a round solid carbide profiling and turning insert in the RNMG43 geometry with IC8150 grade. It features a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, a thickness of 0.1875 inches, and a CVD multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN that extends tool life across a range of cutting conditions. The negative rake geometry and 360-degree included angle deliver consistent edge strength on all eight cutting edges, reducing cost-per-edge for high-volume turning applications. This insert is held by screw clamping and carries a neutral hand designation, making it compatible with standard RNMG toolholders. Installation and indexing are handled by qualified machinists and CNC lathe operators.
This insert is suited for profiling and external or internal turning operations on steel and cast iron workpieces. The IC8150 grade and CVD coating make it effective for continuous and interrupted cuts on P-class and K-class materials, covering ISO material groups P01 through P30 and K05 through K15. Typical applications include contour turning, finish profiling, and medium roughing passes on CNC lathes and turning centers in production or job-shop environments. The round insert shape allows full 360-degree utilization and smooth profiling along curved or tapered features.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for RNMG 120400 standard-geometry screw-clamp toolholders accepting a 0.5 inch round insert with a 0.2028 inch hole diameter. Compatible with ISO 13399 tooling systems.
This insert is installed and indexed by a qualified machinist or CNC lathe operator. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the clamping screw to the recommended torque; do not overtighten, as this can fracture the insert. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new edge.
