The ISCAR 5508789 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill designed for high-productivity hole-making in steel and other demanding workpiece materials. Part of the ICP-2M series, this tip carries ISCAR grade IC908 with a submicron carbide substrate and a PVD-applied TiAlN coating for thermal resistance and edge durability. The tip measures 13.49mm in cutting diameter (17/32 inch, 0.5310 inch decimal) with a 140-degree included drill point angle and a double-margin point geometry that supports accurate entry and exit. Functional length is 0.2020 inch with an overall height of 0.2990 inch (7.59mm). Two slow-spiral flutes and a web-thinned center reduce thrust force during penetration. Installed by machinists and tool-room technicians on compatible ICP-2M insert-seat drill bodies.
This replaceable tip is suited for drilling steel as its primary application, including general structural and alloy steels (ISO material group P). Secondary workpiece materials include stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), super-alloys and titanium (S), and hard materials (H), making it versatile across job shop and production environments. The ICP-2M platform is used in both horizontal and vertical machining centers where a modular drill system with tool steel bodies and carbide tips is preferred over solid carbide drills. It is not a through-coolant tip; coolant-through bodies must be evaluated for compatibility before use. The insert is held by a twist-lock method into an ICP insert seat size 13 body. This item ships individually (package quantity of 1) with a minimum order quantity of 2 units.
Designed for use with ICP-2M series drill bodies accepting insert seat size 13. Compatible primary workpiece material is steel (ISO group P); secondary materials include stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials per supplier data. Not designed for coolant-through drill body configurations.
This tip is installed and replaced by machinists or tooling technicians; always ensure the drill body spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out before changing tips. Clean the insert seat and twist-lock interface of chips and debris before seating the new tip to ensure proper engagement and runout. Follow the drill body manufacturer torque guidance for the twist-lock mechanism. Do not use the tip in a body with a damaged or worn seat, as this will affect hole quality and tip retention.
