The ISCAR 5508633 is a CNMG-style indexable turning insert in the Isoturn series, designed for high-productivity external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It is manufactured from solid carbide and coated via CVD with a TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN multilayer stack, which provides thermal resistance and wear protection across a broad range of cutting conditions. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape, a 0 degree relief angle (clearance code N), tolerance code M, and a GN chip breaker geometry. It measures 0.76 inches in length with a 0.75 inch inscribed circle and a corner radius of 0.047 inches. It is held in the toolholder via clamp or pin.
This insert is suited for general-purpose and finish-to-semi-rough turning of cast iron and steel workpieces in both residential shop and industrial production environments. The GN chip breaker is optimized for controlled chip flow at moderate-to-high feed rates. The maximum depth of cut is 0.314 inches (7.98 mm). Its multi-use designation includes boring applications, making it a versatile choice for machinists running a variety of turning programs. Professional machinists and CNC setup technicians are the primary installers and users of this tooling.
Designed for use with CNMG 643 compatible toolholders. Primary workpiece materials are cast iron (ISO material code K) and steel (ISO material code P). Suitable for use in Isoturn series tooling systems. No specific machine or holder model numbers were provided in the product data.
Installation of indexable turning inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Ensure the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before clamping. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque and clamping procedures for CNMG-style inserts to prevent insert movement or fracture during cutting.
