The ISCAR 5508601 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill insert designed for precision hole-making in demanding metalworking applications. This ICP-series tip features a 140-degree included angle with web thinning at the point, a TiAlN (titanium aluminum nitride) PVD coating, and a slow spiral flute configuration. The grade IC908 submicron carbide substrate provides wear resistance and edge stability when drilling at higher feed rates. At 0.74 inches cutting diameter and 0.413 inches functional length, it seats into compatible ICP modular drill bodies and is installed by machinists and tool-room technicians on CNC machining centers and manual drill presses.
This tip is engineered primarily for drilling steel (ISO material code P) and is also rated for stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), super-alloys and titanium (S), and hard materials (H). The honed cutting edge geometry and PVD-applied TiAlN finish make it suitable for production environments where tool life and surface finish repeatability are priorities. Typical install scenarios include high-volume drilling on multi-axis CNC equipment where replaceable-tip systems reduce cycle time compared to regrind programs. The insert seat size is 18, and the ISO number is ICP 188.
Designed for use with compatible ICP-series modular drill bodies that accept insert seat size 18, as specified by the ISO number ICP 188. Confirm body-to-tip compatibility using the ISCAR ICP system selection guide before ordering.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. The replaceable tip is secured by twisting into the drill body shank — ensure the mating taper and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before installation. Torque the tip according to the drill body manufacturer's tooling assembly instructions using the appropriate wrench key. Do not use this insert as a standalone drill; it requires a compatible ICP modular body to function.
