The ISCAR 5508600 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill insert from the ICP series, designed for high-productivity drilling in ferrous and exotic workpiece materials. The tip measures 0.736 inches in cutting diameter with a 140-degree included point angle and a thinned web geometry that reduces thrust force at drill entry. A PVD-applied TiAlN coating provides thermal resistance and edge wear protection across extended cutting cycles. This insert seats into a compatible ICP-series drill body and is installed and replaced by metalworking machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
The 5508600 is suited for drilling steel as its primary workpiece material, with secondary application in stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials. The slow spiral flute design and honed cutting edge geometry make it appropriate for stable chip evacuation in these demanding material groups. The insert follows ISO 13399 standards for tool data representation, fitting ISO number ICP 187. Typical applications include through-hole and blind-hole drilling operations on machining centers and CNC lathes equipped with an ICP-series modular drill body.
Designed for use with compatible ICP-series modular drill bodies that accept insert seat size 18. Compatible workpiece material groups per ISO classification: P (steel), M (stainless steel), K (cast iron), S (super-alloys and titanium), and H (hard materials).
Installation and replacement of carbide tip inserts should be performed by qualified machinists with the spindle fully stopped and the machine placed in a locked-out, energy-isolated state per applicable machine safety procedures. Use the correct torx or clamping key specified by the drill body manufacturer when seating the insert to avoid damaging the insert pocket or tip seating surface. Do not exceed the drill body manufacturer's recommended cutting parameters for the IC908 grade and workpiece material combination. Inspect the insert seat for chips or debris before each insert change to ensure proper seating and runout.
