Product Description

The ISCAR 5508592 is a carbide replaceable tip drill insert carrying manufacturer part number ICM0697, designed for use in ISCAR ICM-series modular drill bodies. The tip is manufactured from submicron-grade solid carbide in the IC908 grade and features a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process for heat and wear resistance at elevated cutting speeds. The cutting diameter measures 0.697 inches, with a 140-degree included angle and a thinned web point geometry that reduces thrust and improves chip evacuation. The two-flute slow-spiral design with T-Land style geometry is optimized for controlled cutting in difficult materials. A licensed machinist or CNC toolroom technician installs and torques the tip into a compatible ICM-series drill body.

This replaceable tip is engineered for drilling operations in demanding workpiece materials. Primary target materials include stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium (ISO material codes M and S). Secondary applications cover steel, cast iron, and hard materials (ISO codes P, K, and H). The ICM series modular system allows rapid tip replacement without removing the entire drill body from the spindle, reducing changeover time in production environments. Typical applications include aerospace, energy, and precision machining shops running CNC machining centers or CNC lathes with live tooling.

Key Features

  • Submicron solid carbide construction in IC908 grade for toughness and edge stability in hard-to-machine alloys
  • TiAlN PVD coating provides thermal barrier and oxidation resistance at high cutting speeds
  • 140-degree included angle with thinned web point reduces entry thrust and improves self-centering
  • Slow-spiral, two-flute design promotes chip flow in gummy or long-chipping materials such as titanium and stainless steel
  • T-Land cutting edge style reinforces the edge against chipping in interrupted or variable-hardness cuts
  • Conforms to ISO 13399 tool data standards for direct CAM and tooling-library integration

Compatibility

Designed for use with ISCAR ICM-series modular drill bodies accepting insert seat size 17. ISO number ICM 177 identifies the compatible body interface. Verify seat size and ISO number against the drill body specification before ordering.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC toolroom technician. Shut down spindle rotation and confirm the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before removing or seating the tip. Clean the insert pocket and seating surfaces of any chips or coolant residue before inserting the new tip to ensure full and even seating. Follow the drill body manufacturer torque procedure for the twist-lock holding method; do not over-tighten or substitute non-OEM tooling wrenches.
