The ISCAR 5508586 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill insert in the ICM series, designed for use with compatible ICM drill bodies. Manufactured to IC908 grade with a submicron carbide substrate, this insert features a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process for extended tool life in demanding materials. The tip presents a 140-degree included angle with a thinned web point and T-Land style geometry, reducing cutting forces on entry. With a cutting diameter of 0.673 inches and a height of 0.39 inches, it is sized for ICM seat size 17 bodies. Licensed HVAC, plumbing, and general metalworking shops operating CNC drilling centers are the primary installers of tooling in this class.
This replaceable tip insert is suited for drilling operations in stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium as its primary workpiece materials (ISO material codes M and S). Secondary applications include steel, cast iron, and hard materials (ISO codes P, K, and H). The slow spiral flute geometry and web-thinned point help manage chip evacuation and reduce thrust force when drilling these challenging materials in production environments. It complies with ISO 13399 tooling data standards, making it compatible with CAM software that references that standard for tool representation.
Designed for use with ISCAR ICM series drill bodies accepting insert seat size 17. Conforms to ISO number ICM 171 per ISO 13399. Verify seat size and series designation on the host drill body before ordering.
Replaceable tip drill inserts are installed and removed by tooling technicians or machinists using the appropriate ISCAR torque key for the ICM system. Ensure the drill body seat is clean and free of chips or damage before seating the insert. Follow the machine tool manufacturer and ISCAR torque specifications for the locking mechanism. Inspect the seat and locking mechanism for wear at each insert change.
