The ISCAR 5508585 is a replaceable drill tip designed for high-performance drilling in demanding materials including stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. Manufactured from solid carbide in the IC908 grade with a submicron material grade, this tip delivers edge integrity and wear resistance under the high cutting forces these materials generate. A PVD-applied TiAlN coating protects the cutting edge from heat and oxidation. The 140-degree included angle with a thinned point reduces thrust and improves self-centering on entry. It carries a cutting diameter of 0.669 inches and a functional length of 0.289 inches, fitting into the ICM series modular drill body system used across production and job-shop environments.
This tip is suited for CNC machining centers and drilling operations targeting stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium as primary workpiece materials. Secondary workpiece materials include steel, cast iron, and hard materials. The slow spiral flute type and T-Land style geometry are optimized for chip evacuation and edge stability when cutting work-hardening alloys. The M insert geometry and seat size 17 classify this tip within the ISO 13399 standard, making it straightforward to specify in tool management systems. Typical applications include aerospace component drilling, medical part manufacturing, and precision production runs where tool life consistency matters.
Designed for use with ICM series modular drill bodies accepting insert seat size 17, identified by ISO number ICM 170. Verify seat size and series compatibility with the holder before ordering.
Replaceable drill tips in the ICM series are installed by machinists or tooling technicians using the twist-lock holding method specified for this insert geometry. Ensure the drill body shank is secured in the machine spindle and the machine is fully powered down before tip replacement. Inspect the insert seat for chips or debris and clean before seating the new tip. Follow the tool manufacturer torque and seating procedure for the specific ICM holder to prevent tip movement under cutting loads.
