The ISCAR 5508558 is a WNMG-style solid carbide turning insert from the Isoturn series, designed for external turning operations on stainless steel and carbon steel workpieces. The insert carries the IC8350 manufacturer grade and features a multilayer CVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, which delivers wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous and interrupted cuts. With a 3/4 inch inscribed circle, a 3/64 inch corner radius, and a maximum depth of cut of 0.2165 inches (5.50 mm), this insert suits roughing to semi-finishing passes. Licensed machinists and CNC turning center operators are the primary installers.
This insert is intended for use in WNMG toolholders compatible with 3/4 inch inscribed circle inserts. It targets primary workpiece materials coded M (stainless steel) and P (carbon and alloy steel), making it suitable for production turning in job shop, aerospace, and general manufacturing environments. The GN chip breaker geometry promotes chip control across a range of feed rates and depths of cut typical for these material groups. The insert is held by clamp and pin methods and conforms to ISO 13399 standards for cutting tool data representation.
Designed for use in WNMG toolholders accepting a 3/4 inch inscribed circle insert with clamp and pin holding. Compatible with workpiece materials designated under ISO material codes M (stainless steel) and P (carbon and alloy steel). Verify toolholder clearance angle and pocket geometry match the N clearance code and M tolerance code before installation.
Insert installation and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine in a full stop and locked-out state per applicable machine safety procedures. Seat the insert fully into the toolholder pocket and confirm the clamp and pin are torqued according to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the pocket and locating pin for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Do not exceed the rated maximum depth of cut for the insert grade and geometry.
