The ISCAR 5508550 is a VNMG-style indexable turning insert from the Isoturn series, engineered for precision metal removal on stainless steel and steel workpieces. It is manufactured from solid carbide and coated via CVD with a TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN multilayer stack, designated grade IC8350. The insert features a 35-degree diamond shape (V code), a 0.0315-inch corner radius, and a 0.2815-inch (7.15 mm) inscribed circle. Positive rake geometry combined with the NF chip breaker promotes clean chip evacuation and reduced cutting forces. Licensed HVAC, machining, and toolroom technicians install these inserts in standard CNC and manual turning operations.
The 5508550 insert is suited for external and internal turning, facing, and profiling operations on stainless steel and carbon or alloy steel. The NF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and near-finish passes. Maximum depth of cut is 3.00 mm (0.1181 inches), making this insert appropriate for light-to-moderate stock removal where tight tolerances and surface finish are priorities. It is held in place by clamp or pin-lock toolholders compatible with the VNMG insert pocket standard. These inserts are sold and stocked in minimum order quantities of 10.

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench or clamp screw driver specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the insert clamp or pin — do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and will crack under excessive clamping force. Verify insert seating and pocket cleanliness before resuming cutting operations.
