The ISCAR 5508510 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill designed for high-performance hole-making in metalworking applications. It belongs to the ICP series and carries the IC908 submicron carbide grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating. The cutting diameter is 0.984 inches (63/64 inch), the included point angle is 140 degrees, and the functional length is 0.421 inches. The cutting edge is honed, the flute type is slow spiral, and the tip geometry includes web thinning to reduce thrust forces and improve chip evacuation. This replaceable tip format allows the tip to be swapped without replacing the full drill body, lowering tooling cost per hole. Installation and setup are performed by machinists and tool-room technicians on CNC machining centers and drilling machines.
This drill tip is suited for drilling steel as its primary workpiece material. Secondary workpiece materials include stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials, covering ISO material groups P, M, K, S, and H. Typical applications are production drilling operations where consistent hole quality and tool life are required across a range of ferrous and difficult-to-machine alloys. The slow spiral geometry and honed edge support controlled cutting action in these demanding materials.
Designed for use with ISCAR ICP series replaceable tip drill bodies at insert seat size 25, per ISO number ICP 250. Compatible workpiece materials span ISO groups P (steel), M (stainless steel), K (cast iron), S (super-alloys and titanium), and H (hard materials).
Replaceable tip drills are installed and serviced by machinists or toolroom technicians on CNC machining centers or dedicated drilling equipment. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool holder is secured before seating or removing the tip. Seat the tip firmly using the manufacturer-specified torquing method for twist-lock insert holding; do not use excessive force that could damage the seat or tip interface. Verify runout and concentricity after tip installation before beginning production cuts.
